How Metanow Built MUNAS Consulting Into a Leading DSGVO Resource

Sustained SEO is often sold as a slow, steady climb: more content, more backlinks, marginal gains reported month after month. The reality of what a properly structured twelve-month program can produce in a competitive expertise-driven market is different, and it looks nothing like the standard agency narrative. Over the past year at Metanow, we ran an engagement that put this to the test. We wanted to answer a specific question:

What does twelve months of integrated, continuously optimized SEO actually deliver for a specialist consulting practice competing in one of the most saturated professional service categories in Germany?

Not a projection. Not a case built on cherry-picked keywords. A real data protection consulting firm operating across the DACH market, competing against law firms, established consultancies, and every DSGVO content site on the German internet. This is what we found.

The setup: MUNAS Consulting

MUNAS Consulting, led by Dr. Markus Schneider, is a data protection consulting practice serving companies across Germany. The category is competitive, expertise-heavy, and dominated by law firms and established consultancies producing significant content. Twelve months ago, the site had limited organic presence, minimal category authority, and no meaningful pipeline of inbound search traffic.

The brief was direct. Build MUNAS into a recognized search authority in the German data protection space. Do it through a sustained, integrated program. Compete not just for local intent, but for the informational queries that define category leadership.

What twelve months of sustained SEO can actually do

We treated this as a long-term program with a clear commercial goal: category ownership. Here is what turned out to be genuinely possible.

1. Category authority built through content velocity

The first shift was structural. Google rewards depth, freshness, and topical authority in expertise-driven categories like data protection. A one-off content push does not achieve this. A sustained program does.

Over twelve months, MUNAS moved from occasional visibility to consistently ranking on high-intent DSGVO queries: patient data protection, DSGVO for medical practices, data protection in specific industries, external data protection officers, and adjacent professional topics. The site now appears for the informational questions that decision-makers actually ask before hiring.

2. A content system, not a content calendar

Sustained SEO in a technical category requires more than scheduled blog posts. It requires a system: keyword and competitor research feeding an editorial pipeline, technical infrastructure supporting rapid publishing, structured content built for both Google and AI systems, and continuous optimization of existing pages as they mature.

The MUNAS engagement runs on that model. Content is produced at a cadence competitors cannot match, on topics selected against actual search demand and category gaps, and structured to compound in authority over time.

3. Landing pages built for conversion, not just ranking

Ranking without converting is a vanity outcome. Alongside informational content, we built dedicated landing pages targeting the commercial intent queries that produce inquiries: external data protection officer services, industry-specific compliance offerings, and regional service pages.

These pages are structured to rank and to convert, treating SEO and acquisition as one integrated system rather than sequential steps.

4. Positioning for AI-driven search

Buyers in expertise-heavy categories are increasingly turning to ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews to research complex regulatory topics before contacting a consultant. These systems cite content that is structured, authoritative, and quotable.

Metanow's AIO / GEO methodology has been implemented across MUNAS Consulting as a core part of the program. The result is content positioned to be cited by the AI systems that increasingly shape professional service selection.

5. Technical and accessibility foundations that compound

Alongside content and optimization, the program continuously maintains the technical and accessibility foundations that let Google and AI systems consume the site efficiently. Indexation health, page speed, structured data, internal linking, and accessibility compliance are treated as ongoing engineering, not one-time fixes.

6. Measurable growth reflected in the data

Google Search Console over the tracked period reflects the trajectory of the program. Total impressions reached 212K, total clicks reached 990, and the site now appears for a broad set of commercially and informationally valuable queries in the DACH data protection space. Impressions grew 82% and clicks grew 74% in the most recent quarter alone, with growth still accelerating.

More importantly, the site now competes for category-defining queries: DSGVO compliance, external data protection officers, industry-specific data protection, and related professional topics. This is what category ownership looks like as it builds.

The principles that made it work

A sustained SEO program that actually produces category authority is either a compounding asset or a slow drain. The difference is method. Ours comes down to four principles:

Integrated program, not disconnected tactics. Technical SEO, content strategy, local SEO, AIO / GEO, accessibility, and continuous optimization delivered as one system.

Category ownership over keyword lists. Optimization targets the topics that define authority in the space, not just the queries that inflate reporting dashboards.

Content velocity backed by structure. Consistent, structured publishing on topics selected against actual demand and competitive gaps.

Compounding assets, not disposable output. Every page produced continues to earn presence, gets updated as the category evolves, and contributes to the site's overall authority.

These principles are the reason a twelve-month program can transform a site's position in a competitive expertise-driven market.

What this means for expertise-driven service businesses

A common assumption is that competing for category-defining search terms is only possible for firms with in-house content teams and large marketing budgets. The reality is more nuanced. What separates the sites that build category authority from those that do not is not budget size. It is program structure, content velocity, and integration between SEO, content, and technical foundations.

The pattern we would recommend, regardless of scope:

Start with the category map. Understand which topics and queries define authority in the space before touching editorial output.

Build the infrastructure to publish at velocity. Content strategy, technical foundation, and optimization workflow treated as one integrated system.

Match the engagement to the ambition. A regional service business defending its market has different needs than a firm competing for national category leadership. The scope should reflect the goal.

Measure what matters. Business outcomes and category position, not just impressions and position charts.

Businesses investing in structured, sustained SEO programs are building an authority asset that compounds. Not because SEO is magic, but because a properly built and continuously maintained search foundation continues to earn presence and adapt as search evolves. That advantage holds regardless of how algorithms or AI models shift over time.

Frequently asked questions

What does a sustained SEO program include?
An integrated engagement covering technical SEO, on-page optimization, keyword and competitor research, continuous content production, landing page development, local SEO, accessibility optimization, and AIO / GEO implementation, delivered on an ongoing basis with continuous refinement.

How long does it take to see results from sustained SEO? Meaningful category authority in a competitive expertise-driven space is typically built over months, not weeks. The MUNAS engagement demonstrates the trajectory: gradual foundation building followed by accelerating growth as topical authority compounds.

Does SEO still work in the age of AI search? Traditional SEO earns Google visibility. AIO / GEO earns citations in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Metanow builds for both as part of every sustained SEO program.

How is a sustained program different from a one-time SEO project? A one-time project resets the foundation. A sustained program builds category authority through continuous content, optimization, and adaptation as the market and search landscape evolve. Different scope, different outcome.
