The client & summary
gemafreie-musikdownloads.de is a German online shop for GEMA-free music that customers license for videos, advertising and events. The shop already ran on WordPress and WooCommerce with its products and categories in place. The core objective was a complete redesign with a fresher look and a clear, transparent pricing and licensing system.
The challenge
The existing shop worked but did not look modern, and pricing was hard to understand. The owner wanted single licences and credit packages presented so buyers immediately see their options, landing pages per music category, and a purchase process that works end to end. Because the product database already existed, the redesign had to be built on a clone of the live shop.
Our solution
Our team redesigned the shop between April and July 2026, over five revision rounds, a migration and several rounds of post-launch fixes.
Discovery and scope
The brief named two music platforms as design references and asked for a professional redesign plus implementation of the pricing system, starting from a clone of the existing WooCommerce setup.
Design
The first draft was ready in mid-April 2026. In the first revision the owner asked for a fresher, more modern style overall, and in the second he shared his own sketches because the design was still too close to the template. Rounds three to five increased base font sizes, reworked the homepage imagery, corrected the display of credit models and savings, added filters on the music page and introduced top banners that he then wanted on all landing pages, so our team made them a reusable template.
Build and launch
After the migration in June, the music player and Borlabs cookie consent were activated on the live domain. The purchase pop-up now shows the single licences and links to the credit packages. Category pages use dynamic content so each landing page, such as a genre page, shows its own text.
Post-launch fixes
In July 2026 our team worked through several rounds of fixes, including a full test of the order process together with the client, to close the remaining gaps in checkout.
Challenges we solved
Pricing and licensing were the heart of the project. Making packages and single licences visible exactly where buyers decide was more important than any visual detail.
Starting from a working shop
The music tracks were already in the database with their categories assigned, and the shop already ran on WordPress and WooCommerce, so the redesign started from a clone of the existing setup. The brief also covered a subscription model with four tiers, Starter, Creator, Business and Pro, which our team built into the pricing structure the owner defined.
Shop structure
The new structure includes the homepage, the music section, product archives and a single product template, a pricing page, flat rates and music packages, cart, checkout and customer account, an information and services area with its own template, contact and the legal pages, including the cancellation policy. All existing content was carried over, and the owner asked for colour proposals as part of the fresh, clean redesign.
